PLANT A TREE AND SUPPORT THE Y AT THE SAME TIME!
YMCA Honolulu has partnered with Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative (HLRI) to help reforest 1,000 acres on Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii. This land was formerly a koa forest and owned by King Kamehameha I. It was cleared nearly a century ago for agricultural use, though with your help, it will once again be returned to its former glory.
By joining the effort in bringing awareness to the needs of Hawaii’s forests, YMCA will be known as one who supports green initiatives and Hawaii’s native ecosystems. The trees YMCA helps plant will serve as the foundation of our reforestation initiative—an effort that will improve the watershed and contribute not only to the wellbeing of our Islands, but to our coral reefs as well. Now is an ideal time to make members aware of the positive impact that YMCA will be making on Hawaii’s environment.
